Viticulture & Enology Internship Program
Activities:
– transfer/rack/pump-over/stir wine
– barrel and tank prep/filling
– winery sanitation
– calculate and make additions
– filter wine
– crush incoming grapes
– press incoming or fermented grapes
– chemical and sensory analysis of wines
– file work orders and document results
– laboratory testing
– harvesting machinery use
– use of yeasts and trials
– monitor vineyards for pest and disease control and execute sampling protocols
Education/Experience:
– chemistry with lab, prefer analysis of must and wine – winemaking/enology
– knowledge of different wine styles and regions
– prefer viticulture education and experience
Physical Requirements:
– able to spend long periods of time standing, walking, bending, or crouching in
vineyards and winery floors
– ability to stand and walk over rough or uneven terrain
– prolonged outdoor exposure (long, hot days during harvest)
– must be able to lift 50 lbs over head and stand on cement floors for entire shift
Additional Requirements:
– must be able to travel; need own reliable transportation
– flexible schedule: especially during harvest when days can be long
– own laptop/tablet/smartphone with a data plan during travel
